Applied AI Consultant

RebelsAI·Netherlands

Developer - Netherlands

Laterite·Netherlands

Laterite is looking for a Developer to join our Analytics team and develop and implement research applications and software solutions for social impact. This role combines AI application development, software engineering, data handling, coding, product development, and deployment, with a focus on translating research needs into practical technical solutions. This role will liaise directly with our Managing Partner and Analytics team in Amsterdam, and with Laterite’s in-country research and data collection teams across eight countries in Africa and Latin America. This position is open to candidates of all nationalities who have the legal right to work in the Netherlands. Please note that we are unable to provide sponsorship. WHO WE ARE Laterite is a data, research, and analytics firm working on complex international development challenges. We partner with universities, global think tanks, international NGOs, multilateral donors, and government ministries. Our clients include the World Bank, TechnoServe, the Mastercard Foundation, and others. We operate across the Netherlands, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, and Peru, with 80+ full-time staff and more than 2,000 enumerators. We believe meaningful impact requires being on the ground, building local teams, and establishing long-term trust. Our office culture is collaborative and gives people autonomy to grow into their roles. THE ENVIRONMENT YOU’RE STEPPING INTO You will join our Netherlands team in a collaborative and engaging environment. We are low on bureaucracy but high on individual accountability. You won’t be micromanaged here – we want you to use your judgment to solve problems, support our fast-paced teams, and actively improve the systems you build and work with. The Analytics team in particular is small, and you will have an opportunity to shape your role and the team you are on. Through your work, you will liaise directly with our in-country research and data collection teams across Africa and Latin America, who are working on delivering research for social impact. HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT You will work on the development and implementation of AI-driven applications and software solutions for social impact across our key sectors: Agriculture, Education, Public Health, Youth & Labor, Urbanization & Migration. Some of this work might be internal-facing (e.g., building tools to help Laterite researchers do better research), and some of this work will be external-facing (e.g., developing a knowledge hub web platform for an international NGO). An important note on this role: Laterite is not a technology company but is building tech products to complement our research and social impact work. Your experience on Laterite’s Analytics team will be unique and likely dissimilar to similar roles within technology companies. We build fast, we learn as we go, and we all wear many hats. This is a generalist role, requiring multidisciplinary skills across the technology stack – from front-end to back-end to DevOps. Candidates should be prepared to go outside their comfort zone, learn by doing, and share their ideas for how to build better. Your work at Laterite has the potential to make a meaningful difference. We are advocates of building AI for social good to create a fairer and more dignified world. In our own small way, the products we build attempt to unlock insights to help achieve this mission. A non-exhaustive list of potential projects you might work on includes: — Intelligent knowledge hubs. Develop knowledge hub web platforms for use by researchers, policymakers, and program implementers working in the international development sector. Enhance data retrieval processes by integrating automated data curation pipelines with knowledge graphs, RAG, and LLM agents. This initiative involves curating unstructured data, establishing nodes and relationships within knowledge graphs, and combining these elements with a RAG pipeline to generate comprehensive, actionable insights that can be accessed in natural language. — Automating research processes and data analysis. Develop AI applications that automate time-consuming research tasks for Laterite’s research team (e.g., transcription, translation, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, survey development and testing), increasing efficiency and reducing manual data handling. — Supporting the build of an external website to host Laterite’s AI-powered research applications. This website will be publicly facing, allowing researchers to access and pay for Laterite’s suite of existing tools, like AutoQuant and AutoQual. — AI-powered applications for rapid data collection in WhatsApp. Develop tools to collect rapid surveys from the field (e.g., with teachers, farmers, enumerators), integrated in WhatsApp, and including automated analysis and insight generation from responses using an LLM pipeline. — Generative Data Augmentation and evaluation. Test whether we can create LLM pipelines or fine-tuned LLM models to generate synthetic quantitative or qualitative data. Evaluate the quality of this data against real data. — Google Earth Engine Models: Implement and refine data scraping techniques to build and calibrate models within Google Earth Engine, focusing on environmental and socio-economic variables. This will help in making informed decisions based on the latest satellite and geospatial data. This is a challenging position that will provide you with hands-on experience in software engineering, AI application development, various types of data handling (e.g., audio, images, geospatial, survey, etc.), coding, product development and deployment. You will work in a small development team, collaborating closely with senior research and management teams across the organization for guidance and mentorship. Requirements WHAT YOU BRING We are looking for someone with up to 2 years of experience in a related role, or a recent graduate, but will prioritize candidates with hands-on experience. We are seeking someone who is entrepreneurial, creative, passionate about international development and social impact, structured in their thinking, and able to translate complex research needs into technical solutions. Specifically, you have: — Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in a technical or quantitative field — for example Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Software Engineering, Econometrics, Statistics, Digital humanities or a quantitative social science. — Software you have personally built and shipped, that you can show us: a GitHub portfolio, an internship, a research tool, or a substantial personal project. This is important to demonstrate for all candidates, but particularly for those applying with a Bachelor’s degree or limited work experience. — Experience working in, or a passion for, international development, social impact, and research — Strong programming abilities in Python — Experience developing applications with LLMs — Familiarity with AI frameworks and tools, particularly in the areas of agentic AI, RAG, and knowledge graphs. — Familiarity with version control and collaborative development tools (GitHub) — Awareness of DevOps and deployment concepts (e.g. CI/CD, environment configuration, secrets management), with curiosity and motivation to grow these skills — Exposure to cloud services, and working with Unix based server environments, and containerization (docker) — Excellent written and oral communication skills in English — Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and the drive to thrive in a fast-paced environment where timelines can often be unpredictable In addition, we welcome: o Up to 2 years of professional work experience in a related role o Experience working with Stata or R o Exposure to machine learning and statistics o Eagerness to learn and grow in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team If you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every requirement, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be exactly who we’re looking for. Benefits WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU — Competitive compensation. EUR 33,830 – EUR 40,000 annual gross salary, commensurate with experience, plus 23 days of annual leave. Salaries are pegged against Laterite’s pay matrix and grades are reviewed every 12 months. — Professional growth. Laterite provides an annual learning budget of up to USD 1,000 per person and 10 days of time off for professional learning each year. — Flexibility. You can work from home a couple of days per week and from a remote location of your choice for up to 6 weeks per year. About B Lab B Lab™ is the nonprofit behind Certified B Corporations™, a community of businesses that meet verified social, environmental, and governance standards. Together, our movement is working towards a more inclusive, equitable, and fair economic system. Our history B Lab began in 2006 with the idea that a different kind of economy was not only possible — it was necessary. Our founders Andrew Kassoy, Bart Houlahan, and Jay Coen Gilbert believed there was a better way to do business: better for workers, better for communities, and better for the planet. When our movement’s first 81 Founding B Corps signed the Declaration of Interdependence in 2007, they were not just proposing a better way of doing business. They were proposing a different definition altogether.  What we’ve achieved  B Lab became known for certifying B Corporations™, companies that meet verified standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. But we do much more than that. We help mobilize a global community of businesses committed to collective action on society’s most critical challenges. In 2010, B Lab was part of successfully drafting and passing benefit corporation in Maryland, the first U.S. state to do so. This created a legal framework that allows companies to keep their values of care and community, not just shareholder value, at the forefront. Today, benefit corporation legislation is active in 52 jurisdictions around the world.  Our future In 2024, leaders from across the network agreed to evolve into a more integrated organization that embodies interdependence. This next iteration of our global network will balance global coherence with local agency to achieve our vision of economic systems change. We are now building this future together.

Software Engineer (Python) — Programmable Networking

Telnyx·Netherlands

About Telnyx Telnyx is an industry leader that's not just imagining the future of global connectivity—we're building it. From architecting and amplifying the reach of a private, global, multi-cloud IP network, to bringing hyperlocal edge technology right to your fingertips through intuitive APIs, we're shaping a new era of seamless interconnection between people, devices, and applications. We're driven by a desire to transform and modernize what's antiquated, automate the manual, and solve real-world problems through innovative connectivity solutions. As a testament to our success, we're proud to stand as a financially stable and profitable company. Our robust profitability allows us not only to invest in pioneering technologies but also to foster an environment of continuous learning and growth for our team. Our collective vision is a world where borderless connectivity fuels limitless innovation. By joining us, you can be part of laying the foundations for this interconnected future. We're currently seeking passionate individuals who are excited about the opportunity to contribute to an industry-shaping company while growing their own skills and careers. We're looking for a senior engineer who lives at the seam between software and the network — someone who's built customer-facing APIs where a POST doesn't end at a database row, it ends at a router being configured in a PoP. You're strong in async Python, comfortable in Go, and you can read an FRR or VyOS config as easily as an application stack trace. You've lived with the async-job, rollback, and eventual-consistency problems that come from programming real infrastructure through an API, and you're happy in a fast-paced environment where the thing you ship is visible and consequential. The Opportunity Telnyx sells networking as an API product: Private Networks, WireGuard interfaces, Virtual Cross Connects into AWS/Azure/GCP, anycast Global IP, and Public Internet Gateways. A small team owns this end-to-end — the public REST API, the orchestration control plane behind it, and the automation that programs real routers across our US, EU, and APAC PoPs. This role is the full stack of that. You design the API resource, write the orchestration code that turns a request into a network deployment, and own the BGP config it renders onto the fleet. You'll be part of a small, focused team where you own products from the developer-facing spec all the way down to the config on the box — and where the network layer isn't someone else's problem, it's the point. What you'll own The public API on api.telnyx.com — /networks, /virtual_cross_connects, /wireguard_interfaces, /wireguard_peers, /global_ips, /public_internet_gateways and their coverage/health/usage endpoints. Resource modeling, OpenAPI 3 specs (public and private), edge API-gateway routing, and backward compatibility for live customers. The orchestration control plane (Python 3.12, asyncio) — translating POST/DELETE into network deployments: resource allocation (IPAM, port/route-distinguisher/GRE-ID pools), Postgres-backed job queues (SKIP LOCKED), retries, rollback on partial failure, deploy/decommission runners, and long-running health-check and reconciliation daemons. The network automation layer — Ansible + asyncssh/netmiko pushing Jinja2-templated config to a fleet of Linux and VyOS nodes: WireGuard interface and peer lifecycle, FRR/VyOS BGP (VRFs, route reflectors, BGP labels), GRE tunnels, static NAT and firewall rules, Unbound DNS, anycast announce/withdraw driven by health checks, and config-drift detection. Cloud interconnect integrations — Equinix Fabric and Equinix Metal APIs to land virtual cross connects into AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud regions. Envoy-based data planes — a Go xDS control plane on envoyproxy/go-control-plane, pushing CDS/RDS/EDS over ADS to edge and gateway Envoy fleets. Production — Prometheus/Telegraf metrics and alerting, Bugsnag, customer escalations that span app logic and the network, and billing sync (MRC) for network resources. Tech stack (what you'll actually touch) Languages: Python (asyncio: aiohttp, uvloop, SQLAlchemy, Alembic, aiopg), Go (Envoy control plane), Jinja2, Bash Data: PostgreSQL (schema design, migrations, advisory locking, as a job queue), RabbitMQ Network OS / routing: VyOS, FRR, Linux networking (VRFs, netfilter/NAT, netplan, GRE, WireGuard), BGP (VRFs, route reflectors, communities/labels, anycast), Unbound Automation: Ansible / ansible-runner, netmiko, asyncssh, NetBox-style IPAM (pynetbox, netaddr) Proxy / data plane: Envoy, xDS (ADS, go-control-plane) Vendor & cloud: Equinix Fabric, Equinix Metal, AWS / Azure / GCP interconnect regions Platform: Docker/OCI, GitHub Actions, HashiCorp Vault, OpenAPI 3 + Redocly, pytest (unit → e2e), mypy/ruff/black Architecture: clean/hexagonal (usecases, repository interfaces, adapters) — the service is structured, not a script pile Who we're looking for You've built and operated customer-facing REST APIs over real infrastructure — APIs where a POST ends in a router being configured, not just a row inserted — and you've lived with the async-job, rollback, and eventual-consistency problems that creates. Strong async Python in production, and comfortable writing and reviewing Go. Working routing knowledge: you can configure and debug BGP sessions, VRFs, GRE tunnels, NAT, and WireGuard, and read FRR or VyOS configs. Certification not required; hands-on ability is. Postgres beyond ORM basics — migrations on live systems, locking semantics, queue patterns. Fleet automation over SSH — Ansible at production scale, idempotent roles, safe rollout/rollback, drift detection. You've debugged incidents across layers in one sitting — tcpdump, wg show, vtysh, and application logs — ending in either a code fix or a config fix, and knowing which. Bonus points for Envoy/xDS control-plane work (go-control-plane, ADS snapshots). Cloud interconnect products — AWS Direct Connect, Azure ExpressRoute, GCP Partner Interconnect, or Equinix Fabric/Metal provisioning APIs. IPAM internals (NetBox or equivalent), address-plan and route-distinguisher design. Linux → VyOS (or equivalent NOS) migration experience on live customer traffic. Mobile core exposure — routing toward PGW/PCEF/EPC, GRE toward packet gateways. OpenAPI spec authorship and public developer documentation. Operating multi-site PoP fleets (bare metal + Equinix-hosted). What this role is not Not a NetOps/NOC role. The deliverable is software — APIs, control planes, automation — not manual device changes. Not a pure backend CRUD role. If the network layer in the stack above reads as someone else's problem, this is the wrong fit.
