Remote Head of UX

RoomPriceGenie·Remote

About RoomPriceGenie ✨🧞‍♂️ Founded in 2017, RoomPriceGenie is dedicated to helping hoteliers around the globe achieve optimal pricing. 🌍 We understand that many small hotels face challenges with digitalization, making their operations increasingly complex and often resulting in lost revenue. This is where we come in! We have developed a powerful solution that enables hotels to set the right prices in just seconds. ⏱️ Our state-of-the-art algorithm analyzes both internal hotel data and market trends to recommend pricing strategies that enhance revenue and improve booking rates. With customers spanning the globe—from the USA and Canada to Iceland, South Africa, China, Slovenia, Italy, and the UK—RoomPriceGenie has made a meaningful impact in the hospitality industry, and our clients love the results. ❤️ Now, we are excited to expand our customer base and spread the word about how we can support hoteliers in optimizing their pricing strategies. We invite you to join us on this journey! We actively encourage applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds to enrich our team and drive innovation. Your Role As the Head of UX at RoomPriceGenie, you'll lead our small but mighty design and research team of two product designers and one user researcher. This isn't an IC role where you'll be pushing pixels or running sessions yourself. It's a leadership role focused on building the function, championing the team, and setting them up for success. You'll set the strategic direction for how design and research operates, advocate for the team at leadership level, and create the conditions for your people to do their best work. You'll also play a key role in raising design and research maturity across the wider product organisation — guiding better decisions through clearer systems, guidelines, and shared insight. Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership Representation & Advocacy Champion design and research as a strategic partner that shapes the roadmap. Partner with Product Leadership to translate strategic business priorities into a clear, sequenced roadmap for Design & Research. Strategic Direction & Vision Set a clear vision for the design and research function — defining what success looks like, where it's heading, and how it contributes to the company's overall strategy. Raise design and research maturity by providing constructive critique and quality oversight to support high-quality product outcomes. Create the space for the team to work on foundational initiatives that scale team impact. For example: evolving the component library into a robust design system and establishing clear design and content playbooks to drive consistency, efficiency, and quality. AI Operations & Enablement Set the strategic direction for how AI fits into the design & research workflow — where it accelerates, where craft stays human, and set clear guardrails for how the wider org uses it. Foster a culture where the team integrates AI into product work — evolving their craft and building fluency through practice. Ensure designers and researchers play a key role in shaping product and AI direction, grounding decisions in user insight and design perspective. Stakeholder Collaboration Advocate for Design Thinking to be embedded throughout the product life cycle, shaping ideas and guiding decisions. Proactively identify large, strategic UX opportunities that span across the product. Navigate competing priorities between leadership direction and team capacity, ensuring the team stays focused on high-impact work. Team Development & Coaching Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and constructive feedback through regular one-to-ones — focused on the development and growth of your team. Build clear career frameworks and progression paths for Design and Research. Encourage continuous learning, adaptability, and development within the team. Your Profile A genuine understanding of both design and research disciplines, even if your background leans more toward one. You don't need to be an expert in both, but you need to value and support both equally. Proven experience in a senior design leadership role is required — you've owned a function, led teams of designers and researchers, and have a track record of influencing product direction at the leadership level. A track record of advocating for both disciplines at the leadership level and influencing product strategy, not just delivering on it. Experience building or maturing a design function: establishing processes, systems, playbooks, or ways of working from the ground up. Curiosity about AI and how it's changing the way design and research teams work — you don't need to be an expert, but you should be excited about figuring this out with the team. Your Soft Skills A compassionate, proactive leadership style that creates emotional safety for the people around you. Confident navigating difficult stakeholder dynamics without losing your composure or your team's trust. Strong communicator who can translate design value into language that resonates with leadership, product, and engineering. Comfortable giving and receiving direct feedback — you see it as a gift. Nice to Have Experience in or familiarity with the hotel or travel industry. Familiarity with building or scaling teams. Experience building and maintaining a design system. Experience working in scale-ups or startups — you're comfortable with ambiguity and thrive in environments that are still finding their shape. This role is best suited to someone who combines strong engineering judgment with real practical experience in security, governance, privacy, or compliance for AI-powered systems. We care more about evidence of sound decision-making and pragmatic implementation than about titles or years in a specific niche. What youʼll do Define and improve practical guardrails and safe defaults for AI-powered systems Help shape Awinʼs approach to privacy, PII handling, and data-safe patterns for AI workflows Contribute to approved provider and model guidance, including practical validation and usage expectations Work with engineers to translate policy, risk, and governance needs into reusable platform patterns and engineering controls Help define production-ready expectations for AI systems from a safety, governance, and risk perspective Contribute to readiness checks, automated validations, and scalable governance mechanisms that reduce reliance on manual approval processes Help improve logging, tracing, and observability practices so AI systems are auditable and safer to operate Partner closely with Security, Legal, Architecture, and product engineering teams to ensure standards are practical and proportionate Support teams in understanding AI-specific risks such as unsafe outputs, provider misuse, privacy exposure, and poor trace hygiene Write clear documentation, patterns, and guidance that help teams apply standards consistently Contribute to strong engineering practices across the team through clean code, testing, and collaboration  Mentor others and help raise the teamʼs overall maturity in AI safety, governance, and privacy-aware engineering Requirements Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience working on production systems Practical experience in security, governance, privacy, compliance, or risk-related engineering work Clear hands-on experience applying those controls to AI- or LLM-powered systems Strong understanding of AI-specific risks, including privacy exposure, PII handling, unsafe outputs, provider/model risk, and misuse or abuse patterns Experience translating policy or risk requirements into practical engineering controls, patterns, or defaults Good understanding of how to make AI systems observable, auditable, and safer to operate in production Ability to work effectively with engineers, architects, and non-engineering stakeholders such as Security or Legal Good practical experience with Python and/or JavaScript / TypeScript Comfortable working across the lifecycle of a platform capability, from design and implementation to rollout and iteration Good understanding of information security and how to design solutions with security in mind Comfortable applying unit testing, continuous integration, and continuous deploymentStrong communication skills, both synchronous and asynchronous Comfortable working through ambiguity and helping shape standards where the right balance between safety and speed is still evolving Strong judgment and pragmatism, with an ability to improve safety without introducing excessive bureaucracy Nice to have Experience designing or implementing guardrails for AI or LLM-powered systems Experience with AI governance automation, readiness gates, policy checks, or preflight validation patterns Familiarity with tracing, auditability, and logging standards for AI systems Familiarity with evaluation workflows, regression checks, and production readiness practices for AI Experience assessing third-party AI providers or model usage from a risk or governance perspective  Experience with privacy-by-design patterns in data-sensitive systems Experience working in regulated or higher-risk environments Experience writing clear developer guidance and turning repeated risk questions into reusable standards Tools and technologies you may work with: Python JavaScript / TypeScript Azure / AWS LLM APIs CI/CD tooling Observability and tracing tools Policy and validation patterns Internal platform services, standards, and governance tooling Working style We are looking for someone who enjoys building in a space that is evolving quickly, but who stays grounded in pragmatic engineering and long-term platform value. A strong fit for this role is someone who: Thinks clearly about real-world AI risk, not just theoretical concerns Can balance safety, speed, and developer experience Communicates clearly and helps others understand trade-offs Prefers reusable controls and automation over manual gatekeeping Is comfortable collaborating across engineering, security, architecture, and legal boundaries Writes clear, actionable guidance rather than vague policy language Is proactive about identifying risk patterns early and turning them into scalable solutions Enjoys helping other engineers build safer systems without slowing them down unnecessarily Our Offer Flexi-Week: We prioritise your mental health and wellbeing by offering you a four-day Flexi-Week (with one lighter or completely disconnected day per week) at full pay, with no reduction to your annual holiday allowance. Leiderschap & Communicatie: Sterke interpersoonlijke vaardigheden om stakeholders te beïnvloeden, de juiste vragen te stellen en complexe technische concepten helder uit te leggen aan een niet-technisch publiek.
